Fogel & Johler Make It Three for Three At LaCrosse Speedway Enduro's June 20

West Salem, WI, June 20 – Mark Fogel of West Bend, WI, collected his third Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series win of the season in as many tries during the running of the "COW97 ENDURO 300" enduro held at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway. The race was shortened to 225 laps instead of the scheduled 300 due to car count.

Fogel was the overall winner and first in the "A" Class over Michael Hennessy. First in the "B" Class was Louis Chatroop over Brad Jones.

Defending Small Car Series champion Mark Johler collected his second overall win of the season but third in the Small Series division during the running of the "COW97 ENDURO 150" enduro. Dan Chapman finished in the runner up position. Keith Kunze collected his second win of the season in the V-6 division over Michael Peters. The race was shortened to 125 laps instead of the scheduled 150 due to car count.

SMALL CAR & V-6 SERIES

The "COW97 ENDURO 150" Midwest Enduro Small Car & V-6 Series event had an early three-car battle between Jasper Drengler, Leo Bujak and Harley Jankowski. Drengler led early but Bujak and Jankowski battled heavily for the first 20 circuits swapping the lead several times. At lap 25, it was Bujak out in front of Jankowski, Johler, Dan Chapman and Jason Jarvis. Bujak blew a tire at lap 33 hampering his efforts for a first win of the season. Johler assumed the lead at this point followed by Chapman, Jack Litsheim, Jankowski and Jarvis. Greg DiMaggio was led to believe that he moved in to the lead by lap 45, but scoring issues spoiled his efforts. He was later disqualified in the end for the miscues. Johler had nearly a 10 second lead on second running Chapman as the field made the 75-lap mark. With 50 to go Johler pulled even further away from Chapman and finished one lap ahead of the rest of the field to take the win.

At the line, Johler crossed first followed by Chapman, Lenny Adams, Drengler and Jankowski.

STOCK CAR SERIES

Veteran driver Brad Jones quickly set the early pace as the field was let go for the running of the "COW97 ENDURO 300" Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series main event. Jones led the first lap around the unique ¼-mile paved oval but was passed on lap two by local driver Troy Tuma. Tuma held a comfortable lead up to lap 25 when Charles Vian Jr. closed on his bumper. The top five at lap 25 included Tuma, Vian Jr., Darryl Traber, Gerry Galloway and Ryan Nuti. Tuma left the track a few circuits later for repairs and did return many laps in the rears. With Tuma's departure, Vian Jr. began to pull away from the field opening up a seven-second lead on Nuti as the field reached the 50-lap marker. As Fogel had done in the first two events of the season, he used his patience and skill and got by Vian Jr. just as the field slowed for the first of two mandatory refueling pit stops at lap 75. The top five at the 1/3 race marker was Fogel, Vian Jr., Hennessy, Nuti and Traber. Vian's car stalled just as the cars were led off the track.

It was apparent after the break that the race for the win was going to be between Fogel and Hennessy as Nuti and Vian Jr. began to fade. Chatroop ran a strong third place by the lap 100 marker. Hennessy got by Fogel at lap 104 and held the point up to the second and last pit stop of the day at lap 150. The top five going in to the final segment of the event included Hennessy, Fogel, Chatroop, Nuti and Erich Iversen. Hennessy and Fogel were the only drivers listed on the lead lap.

Fogel got the jump on Hennessy at the restart but still had Hennessy all over his rear bumper. After Fogel built a 2-second cushion by lap 184, Hennessy closed once again and made a charge around the 200-lap marker but fell off the pace for the remainder of the event to cross the finish line 4 seconds behind Fogel. At the finish, it was Fogel followed by Hennessy, Nuti, Chatroop and Iversen.

The next Series event is scheduled for Saturday July 24 at the Wilmot Raceway (Wilmot, WI). The 95 WIIL ROCK 'Ralph Fogel Memorial 150" main event is the highlight of the evening with a full program featuring Wilmot Street Stocks, Fearless Fours and a Small Car and V-6 Series 75 lap enduro.
