Loves Park, IL, June 22 - Mark Fogel of West Bend, WI, collected his second Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series win of the season during the running of the "STATELINE STAFFING SERVICES 250" enduro held at the Rockford Speedway. Fogel took the lead during the later stages of the 250-lap affair for the win.
Fogel was the overall winner and first in the "A" Class over Darryl Traber. First in the "B" Class was Ross Pacana over Tom DeYoung. Ryan Williams was the winner in the V-6 division over Joe Pirrello.
The evening started with the running of the “STATELINE STAFFING SERVICES15" powder puff event. Tanya Galloway was the winner of the event over Michelle Lemery.
The "STATELINE STAFFING SERVICES 125" Midwest Enduro Small Car Series 4-cylinder event had Dylan Helfenstein jump out front early with Mike Jucius, Matt Arvia and Jasper Drengler close behind. As the field approached the 25 lap marker Helfenstein was shown as the race leader three seconds ahead of Arvia. Helfenstein would lead for the next seven laps when the red flag flew for his own tire that came off his Escort GT. After Helfenstein's departure, Arvia assumed the lead closely pursued byJohler. As the field crossed the 50-lap marker, it was Arvia out in front of Johler, Phil Speciale, Condrad and Jucius. The red flag flew once again on lap 59 for the departure of Johlers right front wheel. After the green was shown once again, Arvia had a six second lead over second running Condrad. By the time the field reached the 75-lap marker Condrad cut the deficit to three seconds. For the final 50 circuits the story was the race between Condrad and Arvia although there was one problem, Arvia was one lap down due to a pre-race inspection violation. In lieu of this, Condrad had nearly a one-lap lead over second running Phil Speciale. At the line, Condrad beat Arvia by less than a fender but Arvia would slip from second to fourth with the penalty. The finish at the stripe was Condrad followed by Phil Speciale, Jucius, Arvia and Drengler.
Jay Bozart set the early pace as the field was let go for the running of the "STATELINE STAFFING SERVICES 250" Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series main event. Bozart was trailed closely by Charlie Pinkalla and “Big Al” Kuphal for the first ten circuits before Charlie Pinkalla took command of the 250-lap event. The field was slowed for the red flag on lap 22 for a loose tire. At this point Pinkalla started to pull away from the rest of the field but as Kuphal began to fade in the field, Bozart had other ideas however as he caught Pinkalla by the 50 lap marker and pulled ahead four circuits later. As a yellow was displayed on lap 62 to remove the Don Hanson entry for safety, Pinkalla once again took advantage as the field bunched up and pulled away from Bozart. As the field rolled to the first of two mandatory refueling pit stops on lap 83, Pinkalla was the race leader followed by Bozart, Craig Phillips, Traber and Fogel.
Pinkalla was once again the class of the field as he pulled away Bozart as the race resumed. The race seemed to be for second now as Fogel and Traber were closing in on Bozart for the spot and by lap105 it was too close to call. Fogel and Traber started to move toward Pinkalla after they got by Bozart but Pinkalla held the point all the way to the next and final pit stop on lap 165. At that point, Pinkalla held a seven second lead over Fogel. The top five at this point were Pinkalla, Fogel, Traber, Tom Ruh and Craig Phillips.
The final 85 laps looked like it was going to be a shootout between Pinkalla and Fogel as Fogel made a great pit stop to inherit the pole position on the restart with Pinkalla by his side. Pinkalla however pulled away once again showing his strength. The field came to the final red flag of the day on lap 188 for Gary Paulick as he rolled his ’76 Monte Carlo on the front stretch wall. Paulick was not injured. As the field closed together for the caution, Pinkalla and Fogel started side by side once again. Pinkalla’s great run ended on lap 198 when his left front tire went down after getting together with a lapped car. The focus now was on Fogel and Traber as they were the only two cars remaining on the lead lap. The intensity really picked up for the 50 laps of the 250-lap event. For the remainder of the event Fogel seemed to have the upper hand but Traber had a taste of the lead depending on how the two got through lapped traffic. With one lap to go, Fogel got together with Tom DeYoung. Traber seeking his only chance went to the bottom of the track and the two were side by side with one to go at the stripe. Fogel closed Traber’s line quickly and went on to a one-second win at the finish line. The top five at the line were Fogel, Traber, Ruh, Art Speciale and Tom Barnharst.
The next Series event is scheduled for Sunday night July 6 at the Grundy County Speedway. For further information call (262) 895-6682 from 6- 9 pm. or leave a message. Additional up to date information can be found on the Series website at www.midwestenduro.com
