Johler First at Milwaukee Mile "Labor Day 150" Enduro

West Allis, WI, September 1 – Mark Johler of Des Plaines, IL recorded his first career win during Midwest Enduro Series competition and completed the feat at the historic Milwaukee Mile two-mile road course. Johler retained the lead for most of the 150-mile event. The Klement’s Sausage "Labor Day 150" enduro started 71 entrants including the full size "stock car" division, “V-6” division and the 4-cylinder "small car" division. All divisions competed at the same time with Johler campaigning a “small car” entry to victory lane.

Johler was first overall followed by Jay Bozart and Don Wilson. All three reached the Milwaukee Mile podium and earned huge trophies for their efforts plus prize money. The top three trophy awards were courtesy of Merlin’s of St. Charles, IL.

Johler was the winner of the “small car” division followed by Jeff Seitz. In the “A” class for the “stock car” division, it was Bozart over Tom Arnold. In the “B” class for the “stock car” division, it was Wilson over Bob Kelly. Julie Hayes was declared the winner of the “V-6” division as the sole competitor.

Over $450 of change was dispersed on the start finish line during the 10th annual Labor Day “penny pickup” for the kids presented by Perfection Truck & Accessories of Johnson Creek. Fans were also welcomed to an “autograph session” held prior to the penny pickup right on the starting grid.

The Klement's "Sausage Race" was another exciting event. There was a lot of action in the early going of this one as several sausages headed in the wrong direction. As the field moved towards the finish line, it looked to be a chase between the “Brat” and the “Chorizo”. The “Brat” spun out and ventured off the course forcing Klement’s Representative Russ Koralewski to black flag the “Brat”. When the “Choriso” lost his running partner, the “Hot Dog” edged the “Italian sausage” for the win in a photo finish.

About 10 members of the "Losers Car Club" were on hand to show off their vehicles prior to the main event. The owners of these pristine cars were able to parade around the 2-mile road course before the National Anthem.

The 75 lap main event had Johler out in front early on the rest of the 71-car field as he darted out from his front row position. The red flag flew on lap four & seven for the removal of stalled cars on the track. As the race resumed Johler still showed the way to the first refueling pit stop on lap 19 followed by Bozart, Mark Tomasi, Tom Ruh and Gregory DiMaggio.

Some of the drivers made great pit stops and in doing so changed the complexion of the race. Current Midwest Enduro Small Car Series point leader Jason Condrad assumed lead as the field was let go once again. Condrad’s lead was short lived however as Johler went back out front by lap 22. The top five at lap 30 were Johler, Condrad, Tom Ruh, Charlie Pinkalla and Bozart. Pinkalla had the most work to do with a pre-race penalty, which put him four laps down to the rest of the field. Condrad began to fade with mechanical problems just before the second mandatory pit stop on lap 39.

As it seemed that Johler could not be touched, the field really bunched up by the 45-lap marker with Pinkalla now in second followed by Brian Blenker, Bozart and Arnold. Pinkalla pulled away from Johler on lap 46 and put some distance between now second running Blenker by lap 50. Blenker showed his strength and forged ahead of Pinkalla at the lap 55-marker just two laps before the final pit stop.

With 17 laps remaining, Blenker and Johler were lined up on the starting grid next to each other ready to set up another classic finish between the “Small Car” 4-cylinder division and the “Stock Car” V-8 division as in the May event at Milwaukee Mile. The pair were even through lap 61 but Blenker pulled ahead one lap later. Blenker seemed to be on his was to his first win of the season but a flat on lap 69 took that credit away. During Blenker’s misfortune, Pinkalla went out in front of Johler. At the finish, Pinkalla crossed the line first but never made up the four penalty laps assessed during the event. Following Pinkalla across the line were Johler, Bozart, Mark Tomasi and Jeff Seitz. Tomasi failed during post race inspection and Seitz had a two-lap penalty infraction during the 75-lap event.

The next Series event is scheduled for Saturday September 6 at the Grundy County Speedway (Morris, IL). For further information call (262) 895-6682 from 6- 9 pm. or leave a message. Additional up to date information can be found on the Series website at www.midwestenduro.com
