West Allis, WI, May 10 – Jason Condrad of Burlington, recorded his first win of the season during Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series competition held at the historic Milwaukee Mile oval. Condrad was running in the top five for the entire 150 lap contest. The "Bema Polytech 150" enduro started 70 entrants including the full size "stock car" division, the 4-cylinder "small car" division and the new “V-6” division. All divisions competed at the same time for another history breaking event.
Condrad was first overall followed by Mark Fogel and Don Lunsford. All three reached the Milwaukee Mile podium and earned huge trophies for their efforts plus prize money. First in the "small car" class was Condrad followed by 2007 “rookie of the year” Steven Mueller. First in the “stock car” division was Fogel. Fogel was also first in the “A” class division over Lunsford. In the “B” class it was Don Wilson over Mike Geringer. The winner of the V-6 division was Julie Hayes after preliminary winner Don Hanson failed post race inspection. All trophy awards were courtesy of Bema Polytech Inc. of Elmhurst, IL
The top ten in each class received plaque awards plus prize money. The awards were courtesy of the Klement's Sausage Co. of Milwaukee and Paulie's Pub of West Allis.
Members of the "Losers Car Club" were on hand to show off their vehicles prior to the main event.
A portion of the grandstand admission and 50/50 pit raffle were donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin. Proceeds were donated in honor of “Charlie” who was on hand with her family to participate in the days events. Charlie received a special trophy award at the conclusion of the day’s event.
The 150 lap main event started with Lunsford setting the early pace with Scott Riemer in tow. Condrad caught Lunsford by the lap 9 marker and took command one lap later. Lunsford was not going to make it easy for Condrad however as they crossed lap 15 it was a three way battle between Lunsford, Fogel and Condrad. At lap 18, Fogel pulled away from the two and held a 10 second cushion as the cars were slowed at lap 38 for a mandatory refueling pit stop, the first of three for the day. The top five at this point were Fogel, Condrad, Lunsford, Matt Born and Gerry Galloway.
After the break in the action, Lunsford, Condrad and Fogel were once again right at it with Condrad getting the upper hand by lap 45. Fogel and Condrad distanced themselves from Lunsford for the next 10 circuits with Fogel having the edge at lap 61. The event was red flagged five circuits later as Darryl Traber’s right front rotor assembly broke sending his car hard in to the turn two wall discarding the tire in the process resulting in an automatic red flag situation. Traber was uninjured and through for the day. As the field approached the second mandated pit stop, Fogel held a one second cushion over Condrad at the 76 lap marker. The running order now had Fogel out front followed by Condrad, Lunsford, Mark Johler and Charlie Pinkalla.
A huge change was possibly taking place in the event as Mark Johler and Charlie Pinkalla both made great pit stops and now were second and third respectively behind Fogel. Johler caught Fogel at the 82 lap marker and stayed right with leader up to lap 95 but started to slow with apparent mechanical problems and dropped out at lap 100. Pinkalla also made great efforts in the same period but fell back as the field was nearing the last pit stop of the day at lap 113. The top five going in to the final segment of the 150-lap event were Fogel, Pinkalla, Condrad, Lunsford and Born.
Fogel, Lunsford and Condrad made the best of the last pit stop as they virtually lined up nose to tail as the field lined up for the last 37 laps of the event. It seemed as though it was going to be a battle between Fogel and Condrad for the win but a caution flag came out on lap 122 for Tim Goulet as he bounced off the turn three wall sending debris and fluid on to the track. After six laps of caution, Lunsford stuck his nose in the middle of the two top runners and made a bid for the lead but lapped traffic thwarted his attempt as Fogel and Condrad began to pull away from the rest of the field once again. The leader of the event changed five times in the final ten circuits of the event with Condrad getting the advantage at the line for the win. The top five at the finish were Condrad, Fogel, Lunsford, Pinkalla and Gerry Galloway. The top five were the only drivers on the lead lap at the conclusion of the “Bema Polytech 150” enduro.
The next Series event is scheduled for Sunday evening June 22 at the Rockford Speedway (Loves Park, IL). For further information call (262) 895-6682 from 6- 9 pm. or leave a message. Additional up to date information can be found on the Series website at www.midwestenduro.com
