Speciale & Johler Enduro Winners At Dells Raceway Park October 18 ~ Season Titles To Barnharst , Johler & Haye

Wisconsin Dells, WI, October 18 – Art Speciale of Bartlett, IL, collected his fourth Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series win of the season at the Dells Raceway Park. Speciale nearly lapped the entire field at the conclusion of the “Monster (s)Mash 250” main event.

Speciale was the overall winner and first in the "A" Class over Brian Blenker. First in the "B" Class was Bob Palermo over Rob Solorio. Speciale collected $800 for the win with Palermo claiming $400 respectively.

Mark Johler scored his third consecutive Midwest Enduro Small Car Series win of the 2008 season during the running of the “Monster (s)Mash 125” small car enduro. Johler was first over Bill Mueller. Johler also claimed the 2008 Series Championship Crown in the process.

Jasper Drengler was the winner in the “V-6 Series” division as the sole competitor. Julie Hayes claimed the inaugural 2008 V-6 Series Championship title. Tim Goulet is the 2008 Fastrax Racing News “rookie of the year” for the V-6 Series.

Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series official tech. inspector Kevin Rogers took the win in an exciting 15 lap “official’s race” featuring a grudge match between the Dells Raceway Park officials and the Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series officials. Rogers started dead last in the field and held off Denny Bandt for the win.

Michelle Lemery did not waste any time as she held the point the entire distance of the 15-lap “powder puff” event for the Midwest Enduro Small Car Series cars. Katelyn Helfenstein made some great moves in the later stages of the event to claim runner up honors followed by Katherine Jonsson, Susan Bremer and Erika DeYoung.

The top seven in each class received plaque awards plus prize money. The awards were courtesy of the Alakai Hotel & Suites of Wisconsin Dells. The top three finishers in the Small & Stock Car Series also received Halloween themed trophies courtesy of Merlin’s of St. Charles , IL for their respective finishes.

There were many great costumes presented during the “children’s costume contest” with the top two best receiving bicycles. The Grand prize drawing of a WII Entertainment center was won by Taylor Riemer. Tom Balistreri representative of Balistreri Trucking of Milwaukee provided all of the major awards for the contest .

SMALL CAR
The 125-lap “Monster (s)Mash 125” Small Car Series enduro was off to a blistering pace set by Kyle Stark. By lap ten, Stark held a five-second advantage over second running Mike Jucius. Stark maintained the advantage over Jucius up to lap 40 when the red flag was displayed for a loose tire. Stark quickly darted out after the small break in the action to a nine-second advantage by lap 50. The running order at that point was Stark followed by Jucius, Mueller, Johler and Mike McKay. Stark still was out in front at lap 75 but bowed out of the contest by lap 79 with mechanical problems.

The complexion of the race was totally changed after Stark’s departure as Jucius now held the point by a mere two seconds over Johler at lap 80. Johler had the championship on his mind as well as he trailed Jason Condrad by less than five points going in to the final event of the season. On lap 85, Condrad went in to the pit area with mechanical problems and never returned. This opened the door for Johler to challenge Jucius as they were side by side at lap 100. Jucius bowed out of the 125-lap event on lap 105 and never returned. Johler held a six-second advantage over Mueller at this point and maintained the distance for the final 20 circuits to capture the exciting win. At the line it was Johler followed by Mueller, Mark Sontag, Mike McKay and Kyle Riedner.

STOCK CAR
Forty-four entries were on the grid for the running of the "Monster (s)Mash 250" Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series main event. Gerry Galloway set the early pace with Ken Hocking in tow. The red flag was displayed for the loose tire of Donnie Paskiewicz at the lap 27 marker. At this point Galloway held a two-second lead over Mike Kasperek followed by Hocking, Mark Fogel and Mike Geringer. Kasperek caught Galloway on lap 30 but Galloway forged ahead for three laps before getting in to some heavy traffic at lap 35. Kasperek pulled ahead at this point with Fogel in tow. At lap 45, Galloway’s engine expired leaving an oil slick around the 1/3 mile paved oval. Fogel passed Kasperek on lap 60 and held the point up to the first mandatory refueling pit stop at lap 83. The top five at this point were the only cars on the lead lap, which included Fogel, Kasperek, Speciale, Blenker and Matt Schlick.

Fogel continued to lead after the break holding a three-second advantage over Blenker and Kasperek as they made their way to the 100-lap marker. The race was for the second spot at lap 110 as Blenker, Kasperek and Speciale were even at this time. Speciale took over the lead on lap 139 as Fogel began to slow with a flat tire. Kasperek and Speciale would do battle up to the final pit stop at lap 168 swapping the lead several time in the process as they seemed to be the cars to watch to take the win. The top five going in the final break included Speciale, Blenker, Darryl Traber, Jim Plautz and Kasperek. Kasperek lost a lap just before the break with a scoring error missing a lap.

With Kasperek now a lap down due to the scoring error, Speciale took advantage of the situation and never looked back as he maintained a large lead for the remainder of the event. Speciale nearly lapped the entire field at the conclusion of the event finishing fifteen seconds ahead of runner up Blenker at the line. Following Blenker to round out the top five finishers were Kasperek, Jim Sorrick and Tom Arnold.

Tom Barnharst claimed his fourth Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series championship title. Following Barnharst for the 2008 top five were Jay LeBrun, Erich Iversen, the team of Mike Geringer and Ross Pacana and Tom Ruh. Bob Kelly claimed the 2008 Pinkalla Auto Solutions “rookie of the year” honors.

Johler earned his first Midwest Enduro Small Car Series championship title. Following Johler for the 2008 top five were Jason Condrad, Dylan Helfenstein, Jasper Drengler and Logan Schnake. Drengler also claimed the 2008 Pinkalla Auto Solutions “rookie of the year” honors by a slim one-point margin over Schnake.
