Ryan Nuti Claims First Enduro Win, Booker and Prietzel Also On Top At Grundy County Speedway July 4

Morris, IL, July 4 - Ryan Nuti of Edgerton, WI, recorded his first career Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series win during the running of the "FAIRTIME 250" enduro held at the Grundy County Speedway. The current Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series point leader held off challenges from veteran drivers Mark Fogel and Art Speciale during the greater portion of the 250 lap event.

Nuti was the overall winner and first in the "A" Class over Darryl Traber. First in the "B" Class was Brian Blenker over David Donahue.

The top ten in each class received plaque awards plus prize money. The awards were courtesy of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage of Ottawa.

The evening started with the running of the Wells Fargo Home Mortgage sponsored "FAIRTIME 15" powder puff event. Jeni Prietzel was the winner of the event over Tanya Galloway. Jennifer Arnold battled with Jill Lerma in the early going of the 15 lap event before Prietzel took over on lap seven and held off a charging Galloway at the line for the win.

As the field was getting set for the start of the "FAIRTIME 125" Midwest Enduro Small Car Series 4-cylinder event, an unexpected rainstorm approached the speedway with authority as it unloaded over an inch of rain during the next 25 minutes. The 35 car field started in the downpour but the red flag was displayed soon on lap ten as the scorers were having trouble with vision and the scorecards were disolving in the rain. After the delay there were no showers for the rest of the evening.

In lieu of the flood in the infield, Grundy County Speedway promoter Frank Welch announced that any drivers losing control in the infield would receive an automatic disqualification for the evening. This created some of the best racing as most of the drivers concentrated on keeping their cars in control. As the track began to dry the pace was lightening fast as the drivers began to adapt to the ever changing conditions of the 1/3 mile paved oval.

Mike Geringer was shown as the early leader as he started the event from the front row. As the field started to sort themselves out on the wet surface, some of the top guns in 4-cylinder action began to rise to the top. With the race being shortened from 125 laps to 75 due to time constraints, drivers seemed to be a little more on top of the wheel. At the 25 lap marker Todd Booker was shown as the race leader followed by Jody Purdy, Jason Condrad, Mike Geringer and Steve Bayer to round out the top five. Condrad moved ahead of Booker on lap 36 but Booker bounced backed a few circuits later to claim the top spot. The two battled throughout the rest of the event with Booker having a slight advantage as he maintained at the line. At the finish it was Booker, Condrad, Geringer, Chatroop and Bayer.

Mark Tomasi got the field rolling as the green flag dropped for the running of the "FAIRTIME 250" Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series main event. Cregger quickly took the point away from Tomasi one circuit later and had Don Lunsford, Gerry Galloway, Tom Arnold and Nuti in tow. Cregger was on a mission as he was putting many drivers one lap down early. Nuti was also ready as he caught Creeger on lap 46 and took the lead at lap 50.As the field rolled to the first of three mandatory refueling pit stops on lap 65 Nuti was shown as the leader followed by Cregger, Arnold, Art Speciale and Fogel.

After the break, Nuti took advantage of his pit stop to break away from the field. Creggers' car fell off the pace at this point but Speciale and Fogel were set to do battle with Nuti but they were still four seconds off the pace as the field was slowed at 130 for the second pit stop. Traber moved ahead of Fogel and Speciale to claim the runner up spot at this point with Cregger shown in the fifth spot.

The action began to pick up at this point as Nuti, Speciale and Fogel were lined up close as the green flag would fall once again. Speciale held the point for a few circuits before Nuti would bounce right back and look for the lead once again. The action became intense for the next ten circuits up until lap 144 when Speciale got rear ended hard and in to the backstretch wall. In the melee, Scott Riemer lost control of his car and slammed in to the jam truck who was proctecting Speciale at the time. The red flag was displayed a few circuits later as Riemer needed medical assistance. Riemer was transported to the hospital but returned to track later with soreness. His car was destroyed in the incident and Speciale never returned for the rest of the evening as well. Fogel moved ahead of Nuti for the lead at the lap 164 marker. At lap 172 the red flag was displayed for a loose tire from Jay Bozart. As the race resumed, Fogel took the field to the last refueling pit stop on lap 185 followed by Nuti, Traber, Cregger and Blenker. Fogel , Nuti and Traber were the only cars left on the lead lap at this point.

The final 65 laps were thought to be intense as the pace of the race was picking up once again. It looked as though it was going to be between Nuti and Fogel for the win but with Nuti always seeming to have the edge. It definitely was leading up to the scenario but as the leaders were going around a stalled or slowed car of Ryan Harold on lap 214, Fogel apparently had no place to go and rear ended Harold, taking out his radiator and ending his evening after a great showing. After the Fogel mishap, Nuti was never challenged as he held a 10 second advantage over Traber at the line to claim the win. Following Nuti's great triumph to round out the top five were Traber, Cregger, Blenker and Donahue.

The next Series event is scheduled for Sunday afternoon August 12 at the Rockford Speedway (Morris, IL). for further information call (262) 895-6682 from 6- 9 pm. or leave a message. Additional up to date information can be found on the Series website at www.midwestenduro.com
