Doherty Dominates "Milwaukee Mile 150" Enduro

Steve Doherty takes the Checkered!West Allis, WI, July 1 - Steve Doherty has been dominating the short tracks around the area in 2006. He proved he could also do the same on a larger track as he distanced himself from the rest of the field to victory lane during the running of the “Milwaukee Mile 150” held on the two mile roadcourse of the historic Milwaukee Mile. With the field intermixed with the drivers of the Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series (8-cylinder cars) and the Midwest Enduro Small Car Series (4-cylinder cars) Doherty piloted his four cylinder car for the win. Finishing in second overall was Bob Koch (small) followed by Darryl Traber (stock), Louis Chatroop (small) and Jared Pinkalla (small).

Doherty was the overall winner and first in the small car division over Koch. In the “A” class of the stock car division it was Traber over Tom Ruh. Don Lunsford was first in the “B” class payoff over Erich Iversen and in the “C” class it was Craig Phillips over Scott Bodoh.Loser’s car club of Milwaukee

Grand National Vintage Car ClubThe Loser’s car club of Milwaukee showed their cars off around the roadcourse during pre-race activities and the Grand National Vintage Car Club had a mock race around the 2 mile track for 12 laps also during pre-race activities.

At the drop of the green, 82 cars were on the starting grid of the “Milwaukee Mile 150” enduro presented by Eagle Media, Inc. of Muskego and Paulie’s Pub & Eatery of West Allis. Two time Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series champion Tom Barnharst took an early lead and held the point for the first go Dropping of the Green!around but on the second lap he missed the first turn and blew through the run off area and on to the Mile losing a half lap on the field. Ruh quickly jumped out in front after the Barnharst mistake and had Pinkalla and Jason Condrad in tow. Doherty, seemingly coming from no where grabbed the lead from Ruh on lap 8 as the field slowed for a piece of exhaust on the backstretch. As the field cleared Doherty jumped out in front and held the point to the first of three mandatory pit stops on lap 19 followed by Tom Arnold, Ruh, Condrad and Matt Born.

After the break Doherty once again darted out front and started to distance himself from the rest of the field. Koch and Traber were starting to make their presence known as they were now in the top five as the field headed to the second pit stop at lap 38. The top five now were Doherty, Arnold, Traber, Koch and Condrad.

On the restart Condrad got a good jump over Doherty to stay even with him through the first turn but by the time they made it back to the start finish line Doherty had a three second cushion over Condrad and the rest of the field. At the caution to bring up the final pit stop it was Doherty out front ahead of Koch, Chatroop, Traber and Condrad.

The dash to the checkered flag was now in hand with Doherty in command. Koch made a valiant attempt to catch Doherty but would lose one to two seconds per lap in the late stages of the 75 lap event to finish 21 seconds behind race winner Doherty at the line. Over 40 cars were still on the grid as the race concluded.

The next event is scheduled for Tuesday July 4 at the Grundy County Speedway in Morris, IL for the running of “Fairtime 250” enduro event. For further info. contact (262)895-6682 or visit the website at www.midwestenduro.com for the latest info.
