Speciale, Chatroop & Tietyen First In Lake Geneva Labor Day Enduro Memorial Special
Lake Geneva, WI, September 4 - On a day where the clouds seemed never to go away, some of the best racing was taking place at the Lake Geneva Raceway during the annual Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series program held at the track. The rain that was persistent during the early activities such as the Celebrity / Sponsor race and the 100 lap Small Car 4-cylinder enduro did not hamper any of the excitement of each event, including the sausage race. The skies cleared enough for Art Speciale as he won his first Series main event of the season as he captured the final Klement’s Sausage sponsored "Mark ‘Tiny’ Amborn Memorial LABOR DAY 301" enduro held at the track. The track will close at the conclusion of the 2006 season.
Speciale was the overall winner and first in the "A" class over Darryl Traber. Ryan Nuti collected his first "B" class win of the year over Tom Arnold and in the "C" class Tim Dubinsky was first over Brian Hillringhouse.
Louis Chatroop lead most of the "Klement’s Sausage LABOR DAY 100" 4-cylinder small
car enduro but was challenged by Todd Booker late in the event as the two swapped the lead several times in the waning laps. Booker grabbed the lead with two to go but Chatroop made a move inside of Booker off of the final corner to take the exciting win by less than a car length. Chatroop and Booker were the only cars to finish on the lead lap in front of the rest of the top five which included Jared Pinkalla, Roger Schultz and Gary Fogerty.
Dennis Tietyen who represented his own business of Perfection Truck & Accessories was the winner of the "Ron Darroch
Memorial 15" celebrity / sponsor race. Tietyen edged out Series announcer Eric Mueller by 1/2 car
length at the line in one of the best Celebrity / Sponsor events during the duration of events held at the Lake Geneva Raceway. Tietyen, Mueller and third place finisher Jesse Rodriquez swapped the lead several times during the 15 lap event on the wet track as rain fell throughout. Following Tietyen to the line was Mueller, Rodriquez, Larry Truss and Andy Dunn. Tietyen was the sponsor of the "Children’s Penny Pickup" which over 40,000 pennies were distributed among other special coins.
The Klement’s Sausage race was won by the "hot dog" and passed successfully through post race inspection despite rumors.
The 301 lap main event looked like it was going to be interesting from the start as the front row starters spun in front of the field as they headed in turn one
which included Scott Riemer and Brad Jones. As the field slowed for the melee, Rick Cregger darted out front with Gerry Galloway and Chuck Pinkalla in tow. Galloway was momentarily sidelined for a broken axle on lap five to take him out of the mix. Cregger and Pinkalla put on quite a show as they were lapping the field quickly in the early going as many of the drivers were adjusting to the changing conditions of the track. On lap 25 as Cregger was leading the event he went to the pit area for an apparent flat tire giving Pinkalla complete control of the 301 lap event. Pinkalla continued to dominate the event for the next 50 circuits as the field stopped for their first of three mandatory refueling pit stops on lap 75. At this point the only cars on the lead lap were Pinkalla and Speciale with Mark Fogel, Ryan Nuti and Pat Kinjerski next.
As the green was again flown, Pinkalla jumped out front but Speciale was close behind as he grabbed the lead on lap 83. Speciale started to stretch his lead to
over 5 seconds before Pinkalla went to pit on lap 96 with suspension problems. Speciale now had the entire field one lap in his rears and continued his pace until the next pit stop on lap 150. At this point it was Speciale followed by Fogel, Nuti, Kinjerski and Tom
Waldman.
Through the entire segment Speciale continued his distance from the rest of the field as they headed to the final leg of the 301 lap event. The positions remained the same as the previous break with Speciale out in front of Fogel, Nuti, Kinjerski and Waldman.
The last 75 laps of an event can be interesting and exciting and this one would be no different. When Speciale seemed to have victory in hand, he was spun on lap 275 losing just about an entire lap which closed the gap quickly between himself and second running Fogel. Fogel caught Speciale on lap 289 and moved ahead on lap 293. Just as Fogel seemed to have the upper hand he slowed quickly one circuit later as he ran out of fuel. Speciale once again regained his composure to still out distance second running Ryan Nuti by 22 seconds at the line. The top five at the finish were Speciale, Nuti, Tom Arnold, Kinjerski and Traber.
The next Series event is scheduled for Saturday September 16 at the Grundy County Speedway(Morris, IL) for the running of the "Roger Helland Memorial 250". Pit g
ate opens at 3:30, grandstand at 4:30,
