Morris, IL, July 4 - Jeff Jeras scored his third Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series win of the season during the running of the Wells Fargo Home Mortgage “FAIRTIME 250” enduro held at the Grundy County Speedway. In another entertaining and competitive Series event, Jeras held off Chuck Pinkalla by one car length to take the win.
Jeras was the overall winner and first in the “A” class over Darryl Traber. In the “B” class it was Geoff VeZain over Pat Kinjerski and in the “C” class it was Allen Delius over Brian Hillringhouse.
Angela Shaw won convincingly and by nearly an entire lap over runner up Shannon McCarthy during the running of the “Fairtime 15” powder puff event.
Mark Fogel set the early pace as he bolted out from his front row start with Matt Schlick in tow. Fogel soon was starting to stretch his lead and by lap 25 he had a three second cushion over Schlick and the rest of the field. As Fogel reached the 50 lap marker he was shown six seconds ahead of second running Schlick. Only two circuits later the
scenario of the race would change as Fogel’s left rear tire would go flat a
s he was moving through slower traffic. At this point Schlick would inherit the lead and hold the point as the field headed to the first of three refueling pit stops on lap 68. The top five were Schlick, Jeras, Pinkalla, Rick Cregger and Tom Arnold.
After the break, Schlick bolted out front and started to pull away from Jeras looking as though he would score his second consecutive “Fairtime 250” win at the speedway. Things would change however on lap 90 as Schlick was moving through some heavy traffic and he encountered the same result as Fogel as he too had a flat and was headed to the pit area. At the 100 lap marker it was Jeras out front with a closing Pinkalla in second followed by Jared Pinkalla, Cregger and Traber to round out the top five at that point. Chuck Pinkalla was starting to find his rhythm as he was starting to reel in Jeras and took the point on lap 124. Pinkalla and Jeras stayed neck and neck for the lead as they approached the second refueling pit stop on lap 131. The top five at this point were Chuck Pinkalla, Jeras, Jared Pinkalla, Cregger and Traber.
A three way battle for the top spot now was in hand as Jeras was surrounded by the father and
son team of Chuck and Jared Pinkalla. As the three were dicing back and forth for the lead the field was stopped for a red flag on lap 141 for a David Mons and Jason Coleman incident in turns one and two. Mons apparently had his throttle stick and took Coleman with him hard in the wall nearly going over. Mons was shaken and sore but through for the day as well as Coleman with significant damage to both mounts. As the battle continue for the lead it became apparent that it was going to b
e a race between Chuck Pinkalla and Jeras for the win. Chuck Pinkalla seemed to have the slight edge at this point but Jeras’s multiple wins in Series competition would give him the edge. As the field neared the final pit stop on lap 191, Chuck Pinkalla and Jeras were the only cars on the lead lap as Jared Pinkalla fell to the pit area six circuits earlier for a flat. The running order going in to the final 59 laps were Chuck Pinkalla, Jeras, Cregger, Traber and VeZain.
As the field was lining up for the final leg of the 250 lap event, it would be a Chuck Pinkalla / Jeff Jeras fight to the end to determine the winner of the prestigi
ous 250 lap event. Cregger bowed out on lap 213 with mechanical problems taking away any possible threat event though he was one lap in the rears of the leader. As Chuck Pinkalla lead for most of the next 25 laps, Jeras was ready for any mistake he made to take advantage of. The field was stopped for the last time on lap 234 for a red flag as Jared Pinkalla got on his roof on the backstretch after a multiple cars were involved including the
leaders triggered by a blown tire of John Miller as he entered turn one. Pinkalla was not injured. Jeras was now in command of the event with Chuck Pinkalla one car length behind the leader. Chuck Pinkalla could get no closer as he finished the same distance behind Jeras at the stripe. Pinkalla later did not pass through post
race inspection. The final top five were Jeras, Traber, VeZain, Delius and Kinjerski.
The next Series event is slated for Saturday July 22 at the Madison International Speedway (Oregon,WI). The “Steve’s 51 / Newville Auto Salvage 150” is slated for a 5:30 pm. start time as part of the tracks “tour of destruction program”.
