Lake Geneva, WI, April 8 - The Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series began their 2006 season in exciting fashion as Waukon, IA driver Jeff Jeras took top honors during the running of the “Tournament of Destruction 90” enduro event held at the Lake Geneva Raceway. Jeras took the lead in the 90 lap event in the later stages of the event and on to his first win of the 2006 season.
Jeras was followed at the line by Matt Schlick, Frank Calabrese, Mike Kasperek and Mike Herwald.
The 90 lap event was paced early by pole sitter Jay LeBrun with Herwald in tow. Herwald soon grabbed the lead from LeBrun and held the point up to lap ten. The Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series 2005 Champion Matt Schlick took command of the event from Herwald on lap 11 and started to pull away from the rest of the field. Jeras and a determined Mark Fogel were slowly closing the gap between Schlick and as the red flag flew on lap 49 a three way battle for the top spot was soon to begin as the field bunched up when back to green. Fogel was shown as the leader at the lap 60 marker and swapped the lead several times for the next 20 circuits before running out of fuel on lap 82. Jeras and Schlick diced back and forth for the lead for the remainder of the event with Jeras getting the upper hand at the finish line. Jeras took home $500 for the impressive win.
The stands were full of spectators as the Lake Geneva Raceway kicked off their 2006 and final season of racing. The fans were greeted to Motorcycle stunts, Monster truck exhibition, Long jump, BIC car racing, Trailer race and concluded with Doug Rose’s Green Mamba jet burning dragster to conclude the evening activities.
The next Series event is scheduled for Saturday April 29 at the Dells Motor Speedway.
