Pinkalla was the overall winner in the “A” class over Matt Schlick. In the “B” class it was Gerry Galloway over Tom Arnold and in the “C” class it was Ryan Nuti over Jay LeBrun.
David Donahue set the early pace from his pole position with Tom Ruh
in tow. The field was slowed at the start of the 299 lap affair as rain began to slicken the 1/3 mile paved oval. As most of the drivers were trying to figure out the adverse track conditions, Pinkalla quickly darted out in front past Donahue and Ruh and the rest of the 55 car field. By the lap 25 marker it was Pinkalla ahead of Rick Cregger, Mark Fogel, Chuck Pinkalla and Ken Broomell. As the field made its way to the first of three mandatory refueling pit stops on lap 78, Jared Pinkalla, Cregger, Chuck Pinkalla and Schlick were the only cars on the lead lap at that point.
After the break, Jared Pinkalla once again darted out front but by lap 88 Schlick was starting to shorten his lead considerably. The field was slowed briefly on lap 105 to remove the Gerald Hayes mount off the backstretch wall. Hayes was not injured and able to continue. Schlick cut the distance to two seconds behind the race leader by lap 125 but by the second pit stop at lap 153 Jared Pinkalla had a four second cushion over Schlick. The only cars on the lead lap at this point were Jared and Chuck Pinkalla, Cregger and Schlick.
Cregger’s day would end at this point with mechanical failure. Jared Pinkalla once again took
the point but had company from his father (Chuck)
as he now was in second place by lap 172 when he got by Schlick. On lap 212 the field was once again stopped for the red flag caused by the rollover of Ken Bromell on the frontstrech. Broomell was uninjured but the goose on top his car may have lost a few of it’s feathers in the melee. As the field once again was shown the green, Schlick pulled ahead of Chuck Pinkalla to claim the second spot once again but was 16 seconds behind the race leader. Going in to the final pit stop on lap 227 only four cars were now on the lead lap. Both Pinkalla’s, Schlick and Speciale after making a strong run after the last stop.
As the field was set on the grid for the final 72 laps, it became apparent that this was going to be another Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series exciting finish. As Chuck Pinkalla slowed slightly Jared Pinkalla, Schlick and Speciale were ready to battle to the finish. Jared Pinkalla got the early jump but Schlick would have none of it as he took over at lap 233. As Pinkalla and Schlick were swapping the lead, Speciale was gaining a lot of ground and grabbed the lead at lap 273. As Schlick now slowed slightly off the pace, Speciale and Pinkalla now swapp
ed with about 25 laps to go. The two were side by side and nose to tail with five to go but
Pinkalla got the edge on lap 298 and held the point to the wire. Speciale was later disqualified during post race inspection for illegal valves. The official top five at the finish were Jared Pinkalla, Schlick, Chuck Pinkalla, Tom Waldman and Darryl Traber.
The next Series event is slated for Saturday afternoon July 1 at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, WI.
