Brossart And Traber Take Top Honors In Midwest Enduro Opener At LGR

Lake Geneva, WI, May 30- Defending Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series champion Darryl Traber and Defending Midwest Enduro Small Car Series champion Rod Brossart started the 2005 season in similar form as they both took top honors during the running of the Klement''s Sausage "Cherry Bomber 299" enduro and "Memorial Day 100" enduro events held at the Lake Geneva Raceway.

Brossart captured the win in the Midwest Enduro Small Car Series "Memorial Day 100" 4-cylinder event held prior to the main event. Brossart held the point for most of the event but exchanged the lead several times with runner up Jack Rabey. Lenny Adams made it a three way battle but Brossart held for the win by a one second margin over Rabey at the line and a two second advantage over Adams. The three were the only cars on the lead lap at the stripe.

Ryan Nuti of Edgerton won the Auto Connectionz sponsored "Second Place Sucks" front wheel drive demolition derby.

Kevin "the Diceman" thrilled the crowd by winning the Auto Connectionz sponsored "rollover contest". "Diceman" rolled his car several more times even after the competition was through.

Traber was the overall winner in the "A" class over Ralph Fogel. In the "B" class it was Mike Beagel over Brandon Clubb and in the "C" class it was Brian Blenker over Donald Paskiewicz.

Kevin McKevett set the early pace from his pole position with Phil Speciale in tow. Speciale soon darted out in front as McKevett faded. Bob Stubblefield had a glance at the lead on lap 10 but was short lived as Speciale motored by and started to distance himself from the rest of the field. On lap 66, the field came to a halt for a red flag for Brad Jones as he smacked the front stretch wall on the drivers side. Jones was taken to a nearby hospital and later released. The first of three mandatory fuel stops was taken at this point with Speciale out front followed by Al Kuphal, Stubblefield and Les Wiedenhoeft.

After the break, Speciale once again darted out front but by lap 85 had Jeff Sayler on his rear bumper. Sayler grabbed the point briefly on lap 87 but Speciale once again took command one lap later. On lap 105, Tom Boyd moved in to second and a three way battle for the point now ensued. By the next fuel stop at lap 150 it was Speciale followed by Sayler, Boyd and Wiedenhoeft.

Boyd''s crew made an extraordinary pit stop to put him out front on the grid as the field once again lined up but cut a tire down as apparently Fogel inadvertently got in to Boyd on the restart and headed to the pit area necessitating a restart from the back of the field. Sayler got a good jump on the restart and held the point for the next ten circuits before Speciale once again took command. Speciale and Sayler were the only two cars on the lead lap at this point. As the field headed to the last refueling pit stop at lap 227 it was Speciale followed by Sayler, Traber, Fogel and Wiedenhoeft.

Sayler seemed to have the edge as the field broke for the remaining 71 laps of the event as Speciale lost the power steering in his ''76 Malibu entry. Sayler took command on the restart but by lap 255 Speciale was once again knocking on the door as two would battle side by side. Traber caught Sayler at lap 262 to get back on the lead lap but was too late as Speciale and Sayler would swap for the lead several times to the finish with Speciale prevailing in another exciting Series finish. Speciale and Sayler, both campaigning one of their best efforts was however lost as they both did not pass through post race inspection because of registering higher compression that is allowed

The next Series event is slated for Saturday afternoon June 25 at the Dells Motor Speedway in Wisconsin Dells, WI. For further information call (262) 895-6682 from 5-9 PM. or leave a message.
